About LLC:
North Melbourne Football Club, The Scanlon Foundation and the Australian Multicultural Foundation have developed the Learning and Life Centre, an innovative community facility in the new Arden Street redevelopment. The aim of the project is to create a unique and rewarding community/sports club relationship. Money raised through the Tour de Kangaroo will be used to fund operational and further development costs.
In developing the Learning & Life Centre, our intention is to create a unique environment within an elite sporting club, which, apart from offering community facilities, will also provide relevant and professionally designed programs for children from all walks of life. These programs will meet the Centre’s primary aims and objectives of promoting education, health and sport as a means to enhancing community spirit and social cohesion.
The Centre will provide programs developed for young people which incorporate curriculum based school topics for visiting students including after hours homework assistance. Relevant community organisations will run programs in the Centre in partnership with the NMFC and AMF (e.g. Melbourne Aboriginal Youth, Sport and Recreation, Victoria Police, and Heart Foundation).
The Learning and Life Centre started operation early in 2010. More than 5000 students are expected to attend the facility each year.
